ABOUT CIP
A HOME FOR CANADA’S INDIE FICTION AUTHORS AND POETS
Welcome to Canadian Independent Publishers. Our goal is to build a platform for showcasing Canada’s independent fiction authors, poets, illustrators, bookstores, publishers and more. We are passionate about supporting the community of independent writers and providing helpful tips for book promotion and production.
Submission guidelines
While the publication is dedicated to promoting Canadian fiction authors and poets, another mandate of Canadian Independent Publishers is to break down the negative stigma that is often associated with independent publishing. The only way to do this is to showcase authors and publishers that have put forth efforts to produce books that are of equivalent quality to those produced by traditional publishers.
This means any fiction books reviewed for potential interviews will require the following:
- Has gone through a rigorous editing process
- Has covers and additional images that look professionally designed
- Authors will need to have hi-resolution, professional author photos taken to be considered for the cover story
If you are interested in participating in an interview, please email us with your full name, author website, and a link to where your latest works can be previewed.
While all submissions will be evaluated, we reserve the right to decline any interview requests that we believe are not a good fit for the publication.
Additional guidelines:
- Authors and illustrators must either be residing in Canada or of Canadian nationality.
- Written works or illustrations considered hateful towards an identifiable group of people will not be approved for publication, and their authors/artists will not be selected for interviews.
Meet your editor, Andrew Snook
Andrew Snook has been working as a professional writer and editor for more than a decade. He started his writing career as a newspaper reporter in the Ottawa area before moving to Toronto to take on various roles as a magazine editor and feature writer for a variety of business publications. In 2019, he founded his content creation company, Snookbooks Publishing.
Snook independently published his first novella 20 years ago, while studying for his BA at Acadia University. That novella, Wasted Days, was later re-written into his first full-length novel, Remy’s Dilemma, which was independently published working with FriesenPress in 2015. Since that time, Snook has independently published four books: Remy’s Dilemma (2015); Remy’s Dilemma: Special Delivery (2019); Dungeon Jest: The Ruby of Power (2022); and The Snookie-Cookie Crew and the Cranberry Cookie Cruncher (2022).
Snook’s fiction and business writing have won him a combined 21 national and international awards, which is neat, but he’s happier knowing his fiction made someone laugh out loud at an inappropriate moment.
He lives in Mississauga, Ontario with his super-amazing wife, Cristine, his three awesomesauce kiddos Emily, Sofia and Sebastian, and his troublemaking puppy, Luna.
